The Upper Westside is a Community Improvement District (CID), a special governmental entity formed by local commercial property owners and legislated by the City of Atlanta.
The Upper Westside Improvement District works to enhance the transportation network, connectivity, safety, and experience for all in Atlanta’s Upper Westside through investment and community partnerships. It was created in 2016 by a group of civic-minded commercial property owners who value smart growth.
The people who make it all possible
These are the people who work tirelessly to make our community what it is and to push the boundaries of what it can be.
Elizabeth is Executive Director of the Upper Westside CID and manages its fundraising activities, day to day operations, and partnerships. She holds degrees from University of Virginia and Georgia Tech. Atlanta has always been her hometown, and her earliest memory of the Upper Westside area was adopting Rascal from the Humane Society.
Elizabeth’s vehicle of choice is an orange electric cargo bike. She is looking forward to breaking in the CID’s new protected bike lanes. With each CID infrastructure project, Elizabeth particularly enjoys finding opportunities to highlight the history, art, and ecology that help make the district so vibrant. Outside of work, she is a big fan of musicals and serves on the Advisory Board of the Alliance Theatre.
Adeline Collot
Program Director
Adeline is the program director overseeing planning studies and capital projects for the Upper Westside CID. She holds a bachelor in Urban Systems from McGill University and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from our very own Georgia Institute of Technology. Adeline was born in France but raised in the US. She believes her passion for cities came from her frequent visits to Europe to see family.
What she loves most about the district is its unique industrial building stock which makes the Upper Westside like nowhere else in the city. Her favorite part of her role is that she gets to use her left- and right-brain to help create functional and welcoming spaces.
Carl Grant
District Maintenance Crew
Carl heads the Upper Westside’s maintenance team. His long career as a construction foreman and his passion for gardening have made him the jack of all trades the CID relies on daily. He even helped build Stockyards and Ponce City Market!
Carl is an ambassador for the CID. He’s the friendly face our residents and property owners recognize. His day-to-day involves litter removal, and the craziest things he’s encountered are snakes and a mattress on the I-75 ramp. Be sure to visit his favorite spot in the Upper Westside, the Waterworks Greenspace at Northside Dr & 17th. Carl just asks that you please clean up after yourself, for his sake!
Nick Nichols
District Maintenance Crew
Nick is the second half of our maintenance team. He spent many years as a mechanic for UPS and makes sure our Upper Westside truck is a well oiled machine so they don’t miss a single day in the field.
Nick hopes he can travel more soon, but for the meantime he’s enjoying a gastronomic tour of the restaurants in our district. He recommends trying the Tikka Masala tacos from Velvet Taco. Nick would like to remind you to drive the speed limit, for your safety and his when he’s out on the job!
