The Upper Westside Community Improvement District in collaboration with Studio Architects is participating in PARK(ing) Day, a global event that occurs annually in September, aimed at reclaiming on-street parking spaces by temporarily transforming them into exciting and imaginative park spaces or “parklets”. This annual, worldwide exercise taking place in over 160 cities is meant to demonstrate the importance of preserving and creating public open space in urban areas.
The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, in addition to an effort to improve the quality of our urban places.
On Friday, September 27th, we will take over the 8th St, Brady Ave, and West Marietta intersection for just one day between 10AM and 3PM. Stop by and experience the “parklet” or small park, come pick up a free sandwich voucher for Tiny Bistro across the street (available to the first 50 visitors) and make sure you stay from 2PM-3PM for King of Pops.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing our vision for an Upper Westside with more public greenspace.
