Great places need great signage!
We’ve been hard at work since 2019, rolling out signage across the Upper Westside district to help enhance our great places, recognize our unique neighborhoods, inform, and orient people through the area.

Our early sign projects:

  • The large I-Beam monument signs installed at the I-75 ramps
  • Informational signs at the Waterworks Playscape detailing the 7-step water treatment process and even include a knot tutorial to tie hammocks to the orange posts under the beautiful old-growth shade trees
  • Interactive spinning nature signs at The Hill which teach you about the birds frequently seen in the greenspace

Our latest signage projects:

  • Two gateway arches along Woodall Rail Trail created by local metal artist Andrew Crawford adorned with birds and critters you could see along the trail
  • Welcome signs at both Woodall Rail Trail and The Spur Trail to orient you while you discover both trails
  • Interpretive signs at Woodall Rail Trail and The Spur Trail which share neighborhood history and fun nature facts (be sure to give them a spin)

Plus, coming later this month, free-standing wayfinding signs (thanks to a Beltline grant!) to replace the small square tactical signs mounted on existing poles in 2021.

Getting around is getting easier! The City of Atlanta’s Howell Mill Complete Street project recently installed the brick-red raised bike lane between 14th Street and Brady Avenue —giving cyclists a more comfortable, visible, and connected route through the heart of the district. Their construction crews have also begun pouring the foundations for signal poles at Brady Avenue, The District at Howell Mill, and Beck Avenue, to install (or upgrade) traffic signals. Did you notice the upgraded buffer protection on the Brady Cycle Track too? Our CID is testing out new concrete barriers as an alternative to the existing orange Zicla Zippers that were installed several years ago. More mobility improvements are in the works, and we want to hear from riders what you like best!

This past April 26th, the Woodall Rail Trail came alive for Celebrate Trails Day. From sunny walks to snagging special sticker sheets by artist @sarah_neuburger, it was a celebration of connection, creativity, and community.

Ever wonder who’s behind all these improvements? We recently introduced the CID team that helps make it all happen—meet the planners, advocates, and organizers shaping Upper Westside.
