On Saturday, November 5, come join us in the weeds! We’re co-hosting a cleanup to remove invasive plants along the Woodall Rail Trail (purple line on linked map). As we prepare to break ground for this trail in 2023, our goal is to uncover the hidden nature and restore the area’s native biodiversity to its natural beauty. Volunteers will learn about the native plant species from Trees Atlanta and Groundwork Atlanta to help establish new roots for what’s to come.
Removing the invasive species is the first step towards getting the area prepped for the trail’s construction in 2023. At the end of our cleanup event, we’ll walk the trail segment and share the vision for the future trail network.
Interested in getting in the weeds (literally)? Sign up here! A warm cup of coffee, light bites, and equipment for rolling up your sleeves will be provided. Long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes are recommended! Have your own gardening gloves? Bring them!
ICYMI, Woodall Rail Trail is a planned trail connection between the Westside BeltLine and the Silver Comet Trail to Alabama! The 1st segment is funded partially by a Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Act grant. Our partners including Groundwork Atlanta and PATH Foundation will help us complete the first 0.7 miles between the future BeltLine and The Works. Project partner Trees Atlanta will also help us remove invasive plants (like ivy and privet) and replant this model segment with natives.
