Many of us are getting creative during this COVID-19 quarantine, finding new ways to get our work done as well as getting crafty in our free time. Upper Westside CID is leaning into the artistic spirit, investing in the beauty of our district and promoting public art.

We are taking a three-pronged approach to our Upper Westside public art initiative:

  • Providing grant funding to residential neighborhoods for public art
  • Commissioning artists to paint our signal cabinet boxes
  • Commissioning a large mural (tune in to our social accounts for the big reveal) in the public realm

Public Art Grants to Neighborhoods

Did you submit a postcard survey or park drawing in our neighborhood mailboxes earlier this month? If so, you may have helped your neighborhood win a grant for a public art project! Congratulations to the residents of Underwood Hills, Howell Station, and Blandtown, who had the highest participation in our contest and won funds to support public art in their neighborhoods. We’ve already heard some of their amazing ideas, and we can’t wait to see them come to life.

Paint Our Signal Cabinets

UWCID has selected five signal cabinet boxes in our district that need some TLC! We are currently accepting proposals from artists to paint these metal boxes, blending their artistic vision with the character of the Upper Westside. Artists may submit proposals until May 25, and we expect to see some beautified signal boxes by mid-July! Find more application information here.

Bring More Mural Art to the Westside

But that’s not all! Our passion for public art is so much larger than even all the signal boxes in the Westside. The Upper Westside CID is partnering with Living Walls Atlanta to create a large outdoor mural in a public area of our district. Stay tuned for more details, coming soon!
