Huff Hill Transit Parklet

The first on-street mobility parklet of its kind! The parklet uses repurposed i-beams as the structure for the canopy that spells out “Blandtown” and the space along the railings features neighborhood history. The parklet was made possible by grants from the Blandtown Neighborhood Association, ChangeX, and the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Project

Bus Stop Placemaking Study

Our CID strongly believes in being able to walk to enjoy a slice with your family and friends! Fellini’s owners agreed, and we partnered to narrow their driveway entrances and exits to bring you a safe new sidewalk so you can do just that.

Upper Westside Improvement District Masterplan

The Upper Westside Masterplan is an investment roadmap for the decade to come! It took 18 months to develop by working closely with residents, business, and property owners. Be sure to thumb through it to see the top infrastructure priorities for the CID.

Wayfinding Signage

It’s easy to get turned around in the District with its winding roads and railroad crossings. But just so you don’t miss any hidden destinations, we’re piloting wayfinding signage with walking and biking distances!

Project

Underwood Hills Pavilion Refresh

Six vibrant neighborhoods packed with their unique history make up the district. In 2020 we gave Underwood Hills an arts grant. They chose to spend it on refreshing and renaming the pavilion in Underwood Hills Park after Eva Nason.

Project

Signal Cabinet Box Painting

Between the Goat Farm, King Plow, and the Westside Cultural Arts Center, the Upper Westside District has always been home to creatives. We wanted to bring more art to the public right-of-way and hired five Atlanta artists to paint signal cabinet boxes on Howell Mill Rd, Collier Rd, and Chattahoochee Ave.

Project

Brady Cycle Track

Brady Avenue has bloomed into quite a vibrant road with apartments, retail, office, and residential destinations. The Brady Bike Lanes project, once permitted, will install a protected cycle track on the north and west sides of Brady Avenue and tie into the existing bike lanes on Marietta Street. Need some air in your tires? Be sure to do a pit stop at the Howell Junction Pocket Park to use the tune-up station and fill them up.

Blandtown Sign Toppers

Six vibrant neighborhoods packed with their unique history make up the district. In 2020 we gave Blandtown an arts grant with which they not only designed a neighborhood logo, but also street sign toppers! Their new logo is a play-off of their street grid. Be sure to keep an eye out for the sleek black sign toppers, you’ll know you’re in Blandtown.

10th Street Bike Lanes

10th Street is our direct connection to Georgia Tech and Midtown. This planning study will determine which type of protected bicycle facilities the CID should implement between Brady Avenue and Northside Drive. We hope you’ll give bike commuting a try once this critical infrastructure is built!

Howell Mill Restriping

We bet you’ve been stuck at Howell Mill Road and 14th Street behind one car trying to turn into Westside Provisions before, biting your tongue watching the traffic light go from green to red. Well, fear no longer. We’ve repainted the lanes so there’s a dedicated turn lane onto 14th Street, whether you’re going north or south. A new signal and timing gives shoppers and residents a dedicated green left-turn arrow too!

Brady Pocket Park

The Upper Westside’s first pocket park (i.e. mini park) was a public/private collaboration between the CID, the neighborhood, and Jamestown to create a new gathering space at the intersection of Brady Avenue and Howell Mill Road. Crossing Beacon on Howell Mill Rd at Brady Ave

Scanning Howell Mill Road for a gap in the cars to dart as quickly as possible across the multiple lanes of traffic is now a thing of the past at Brady Avenue. The intersection now boasts a 17-foot-tall mast-arm with multiple flashing yellow lights that are instantly activated at the touch of a push-button located at street level. This Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB) makes the intersection safer for pedestrians and drivers alike.

360-Degree Bench at Waterworks Greenspace

The Waterworks Greenspace has a new feature: a 360-degree bench around a tree on the overlook hill. Many thanks to the people in Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU) D and E, who banded together in a local, grassroots effort to apply for grant funding for this unique bench. The NPUs are an invaluable part of the team of Upper Westsiders, constantly working to make our wonderful district even better.

Crossing Beacon on Howell Mill Rd at Channing Dr

But this intersection now boasts a 17-foot-tall mast-arm with multiple flashing yellow lights that are instantly activated at the touch of a push-button located at street level.
